Old Frame 1st routine is the kungfu fist in Chen style Tai Chi Chuan. It use mind (yi) to lead qi, mind before fist. smoothly linked & relax forms. Every movement has its offensive & defensive meaning. Player has to know & correctly use its softness & hardness to reach expected fighting & health-preserving purpose. Do not only focus on either softness or hardness.
Old Frame 2nd routine also named Cannon Hammer (Pao Chui). Its speed, strength, & characterisitics are different from Old Frame 1st routine. 2nd Routine required speedy & solid forces. Mainly trains shaking force. It contains more ChinNa, elbow, open hand, & cutting movements. Movements are more complicated. It requires fundamental of 1st routine.

New Frame routines was created by Chen FaKe (1887-1857), grandson of Chen ChangXing, based on Old Frame & Small Frame routines. Chen FaKe is a famous master among 17th generation inheritor of Chen style Tai Chi Chuan. He practised Tai Chi 30 times a day when he was a child. Grabbing, throwing, & hitting while doing push hand. This routine is agile & steady featuring ChanSi force. Movements using mind to run qi. More large & wide movements. It is more suitable for young practicers.
Push Hand was also called Hitting Hand. These practical skills were built on grabbing, throwing, solving, hitting, & bone-reversing skills using Yin Yang theories. It helped enhancing endurability, speed, reaction, & physique. All ages of people can practise it, so it became very popular among tai chi players.
